Totally bare minorly chapped lips
Last week I mentioned the insane drugstore.com sale and how I may have gone a wee bit overboard. When I saw their 100% color guarantee I figured it was too cool of an opportunity to pass up. How often do you get the chance to try out makeup risk free?
I always kind of thought the fact that I like my eyes more than other things on my face meant I was automatically an eyeshadow girl. And I do love me a good smoky eye, but eyeshadow is not the place to experiment when you have a sort of stuffy 9-5 job (or internship, if you're 25 and not yet a functioning adult thanks to grad school). Lipstick, on the other hand, is perfect. You can go relatively loud if the rest of your face is bare and if you get to work and feel like it's too much, you take it off and swap in some nude gloss.
Bonus: lipstick takes way less time than smoky eyes. So it turns out I'm a lipstick girl.
Like everything else, my OCD and I painstakingly research before making makeup decisions. Since there is nothing I hate more than arm swatches -- seriously?! whose lips are the color of their arm?! -- I sat down with some makeup remover wipes and did y'all a favor/showed off my sa-weet application skills. Can you spot my Condi moments? Don't act like you haven't been there.

The Covergirl Lip Perfections win hands-down for formula. Revlon loses, with the exception of Orange Flip and Really Red. It could just be the Super Lustrous line though, because I own and love half the Colorburst shades. Maybelline Color Sensational falls somewhere in the middle.
I'm on the fence about which ones to return, but so far the list stands at Plum Perfect (I have Colorburst Rosy Nude which is fairly similar), Black Cherry (bad formula, see pic), Deepest Cherry (not dark enough), and Fifth Ave Fuchsia (I prefer the Spellbound formula).
Barely Brown, Burn, Hot, and Red Revival are iffy. They're all beautiful, but I'm trying to decide if they're too similar to what I already have/each other to justify keeping. I'm going to see if I can mix Vavaviolet and Divine to get the purple I'm looking for, but if not, they're headed back as well.
What are your favorite drugstore lipstick shades? Feed my addiction!
I LOVE DRUGSTORE LIP PRODUCTS. More than anything.
ReplyDeleteI love love love the new Revlon Lip Balm stains. Favorites are Honey Deuce (is basically your lip color but better), Sweetheart (best bright fuschia ever), and Smitten (a winter-appropriate mix of berry and fuschia).
Also love Wet 'n Wild lipsticks! They're not the absolute greatest on longevity, but they're beautiful shades! I love It's a Girl(very pretty pink), Spotlight Red(deep red, beautiful for winter) and Mauve Outta Here(a gorgeous mauve-y plum).
I'm gonna stop now because this could go on forever. Love this post though!
And now... I'm off to CVS. Seriously I'll definitely be trying the Revlon stains. I have Charm, I think? Like the peachy one? Don't love the color on me but the formula is pretty sick.
DeleteGreat review! I don't wear lipstick anymore, I know, crazy right? You, on the others hand, look fab with all these fun lip colors! I bet it's hard to choose which to return.

GIRL WHAAAA?! How do you liiiiiive?! No lipstick and no Pinterest?! The horra! The horra! ;)
Deleteso i've recently discovered that i'm a lip product hoarder [is there a lipgloss hoarders anonymous?]. and unfortunately, i prefer the expensive stuff [usually from sephora/ulta]with favorites being clinique, nars, and ulta brand. it's quite a problem but, i love 95% of the colors you [so kindly] tested! maybe there's a light at the end of my [expensive lip product hoarding] tunnel and i'll head to a drugstore instead of the mall.

You should definitely check out the CG Lip Perfections, for starters. The formula is pretty great and the color saturation is way beyond what I expected.
DeleteOh girl! I have a 20%off coupon at ulta burning a hole in my pocket (coupons are like cash to me). Your post is the perfect excuse to use it and to feed my inner lip junkie as well. Btw, I was wearing a combo of Revlon ravish me red and MAC russian red on the blog the other day. You should try ravish me red by Revlon. I think that's my fave. I also love the lip butter in candy apple. You might like the consistency better of candy apple.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU I was wondering what yours was. Love it. I'll check out Ravish Me for sure! I love how the lip butters feel but I wish they weren't so sheer.
DeleteAbsolutely loved seeing this post. The last 3 are definitely my favorite colors for you - so much fun! Have you tried Revlon Lip Butters & Wet and Wild lipsticks? Two of my favorites!

The lip butters feel awesome but I wish they were less sheer! I'll go check out the W&W colors for sure. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteI didn't know that drugstore.com has a color guarantee! I remember I'd always buy the wrong shade of drugstore foundation when I was in high school and felt so weird going to return it, because it's not like they could put it back on the shelf and re-sell opened makeup.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was as adventurous with lip colors as you. I don't own a single lipsstick, other than nude, which basically makes me look like a corpse.
I don't think it's on all products - check to see if the product page has "100% color guarantee" on it before you buy. But yeah, so cool! I love nude lipstick but DEFINITELY try some more. Wait for a sale and get a nice medium mauve or plum. It feels different but not TOO different.
DeleteThis is so funny because I used to buy CG but now I LOVE Revlon Super lustrous colors - I swear by them actually! :) But I've never heard of the Color Sensational before.. maybe I need to try! :)

Try them for sure! I love the super lustrous colors but they come off streaky on me. Maybe for me, it's a user malfunction more than the product ;) I'll try again!
