When you talk about laws, you can talk about the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. The letter of the law is the exact wording used, the black and white text of it. The spirit of a law is the policy behind it, or what the legislature meant to do when they enacted it. So technically, you can sometimes violate the spirit of a law without actually violating the law itself.
This outfit would violate at least the spirit of most office dress codes. When you break it down, this is just a button down, a pencil skirt, flats and a blazer... but it's a teal python button down, a neon pink pencil skirt, flats with giant bows and a blazer. I'm lucky that the office where I intern doesn't have a super strict dress code, but I'm curious - could you get away with an outfit like this? How formal is your office dress code?

DeleteHeck yes I could get away with this outfit! And honestly, I don't see what's wrong with it at all! So it's bright colors - so what? I have very strong (read: anti) feelings toward office dress codes. For instance today I'm sneakily wearing black jeans. They look like black pants - so no one's the wiser!
ReplyDeleteI feel you- I don't think I could ever work in a super stuffy office. It'd be a deal breaker. As far as I'm concerned, dress codes should be "take a shower and make an effort." I've been thinking about sneaking in my black jeans, now I just might go for it.

ReplyDeleteI work for an engineering company where there is a pretty casual dress code. The engineers -mostly men walking around casual and the women are pretty laid back too so I totally stick out with my clothes and the only woman who wears a dress. WHAT? Yeah crazy I know hahahaha. I am glad there is no dress code so I can experiment and go on the rampage :-).
There is nothing wrong with your look Sam, it's elegant but in a more vivid, modern and colourful way. Just gorgeous. The only thing that violates here in the pic is your sticking hair pahahahahaha MIAUH :-D

I'm usually the most dressed up, too - at first it kind of freaked me out when people would comment on my clothes, but now I realize that they don't mean anything negative by it. A lady I worked with this summer would come in every morning to see what shoes I had on. We bonded :) Have a fabulous weekend as well, my sassy German!

And right now I'm all school and no work, but the places I've worked in the past I would totally wear something like this (and did). No one else dressed as well as I did, but I always got compliments from my bosses, so I figured I was OK. Keep on doin' yo thang.
