Sweater: Old Navy | Vest: CoffeeShop | Skirt: F21 | Boots: Report | Tights: Target | Watch: Kohl's | Necklace: no idea
I may be wearing the same sweater twice in a row, but at least I changed my shoes!
I've been wanting to try this whole boots with a pencil skirt thing, because the rest of you make it look so cute, but something felt off to me. I'm really hoping I'm just doing it wrong and this is not my fatal character flaw. You know, some people are greedy, some people are Missouri fans (can't resist! rock chalk), some people look like frumpmonsters when they wear boots with skirts.
Have y'all been keeping up with the other 30 for 30-ers? You so should be. Jess found a perfect mustard pencil skirt at Kohl's, I'm seething with jealousy over Kim's ankle boot collection, Ginny just discovered the awesomeness that is How I Met Your Mother (I need to catch up on the last two seasons!), Elissa pulled off plaid, tweed, and python like a pro, Amber started an outfit spreadsheet (I'm like a proud mama duck over here), Nicole showed me exactly how to wear my dalmatian cardi from Old Navy once I have my closet back, and Jenna got nominated for like a thousand Liebster Awards. Go girl!
the skirt boot thing is so tricky! i've found that making sure you have a little bit of leg peeking works best, so either try shorter (mid-calf?) boots or a slightly shorter skirt. the vest looks great paired with that sweater btw!
ReplyDeleteWhat? you're not wearing your new purple boots?? :)
ReplyDeleteI've played around with pencil skirts and boots a lot of times, and I found that the most flattering pairing was for shorter pencil skirts that ended a little above the knee, paired with boots that were a little below the knee cap, so you can see some knee, and there's separation between skirt and boots. When the skirt is too long or the boots too tall, it looks weird.
I think Kimmie hit the nail on the head - a little bit of leg can make a whole lot of difference!
DeleteI was just coming to comment but then Kimmie already said what I was going to say. I mean, I wouldn't know because I don't own a single pencil skirt that actually fits, but from lots of pinterest research, I feel her advice is sound.
ReplyDeleteLove this rationalization, Fran.
DeleteDitto on what Fran said. I mean, the first part. Not the second part. I have too many pencil skirts to count. Kimmie's advice is what I was going to say! I still like this outfit though, Sam!
DeleteAs for wearing the same thing twice in a row, I've already done it (cringe) I didn't die and nobody noticed ( or said anything if they did) this is a pretty big step for me :)

hahah sam you dont look like a frumpmonster ( honestly I had no clue what frump means, so my bf told me " it's the bird scarer on the field wearing cloth". Omg, if you would be one the farmers are getting seriously in trouble ;-). So you dont like like a bird aka blogger scarer hahahhaa, you are just the cutest. But as the girls said before the knee should be visible at some point, so shorter pencil kirt (above knee) or boots lil bit under the knee. I love wearing pencil skirt the best with heels.

Sweaters are the bomb! And I wear many things twice in a row hah. I so want a fur vest! Thanks so much for your comment! I HIGHLY recommend going to a live zumba class it's a whole different experience and soo much fun!! That's what got me interested in teaching it. You should even go to a zumba party or even a zumba black light party. Ask your nearest zumba instructor at a gym and they'll let you know!

You actually do look wonderful in this outfit. I don't own a leather skirt or even pants, but it is something I want to try. Kind of scared to try though and thinking I don't really have the appropriate place to wear it since I don't go to parties a lot. hahaha.. Maybe I should try a skirt then.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit. What a beautiful & fun skirt. Looks great with the vest. =) I also like that you have done a highlight on the other ladies joining you on the challenge.
You are welcome about the Liebster, Sam. You are in good company, I agree. But you are beautiful & you dress beautifully, too. I am loving seeing your 30 for 30 Challenge. =)
